Mongolian is spoken by over 2.35 million people in the country of Mongolia, where it is the official language, and it’s an official language of the People’s Republic of China, where it is spoken in the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang.

The Mongolian language is a melody in itself, thanks to its cool use of vowel harmony. What does that mean? Basically, vowels in a word or sentence can affect each other. For example, if an “o” sound is used, then only complementary vowel sounds will make up the rest of the word or sentence. We told you it was cool!

Unlike many languages, it hasn’t been a wandering nomad and has tended to pretty much stay within China and Mongolia, keeping its essence and cultural heart despite some influence over the years. Mongolia is a landlocked country located between China and Russia, and one of the last places on earth where the nomadic life is still a living tradition!
